Michael Ross was born in Laurel, Mississippi. He earned a B.F.A. degree in painting at The University of Mississippi and an M.A. degree in drawing at Northern Illinois University. He has been an art instructor at Jones County Community College in Ellisville, Mississippi and at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.
He spent three decades living in San Francisco, California. As of now, he is back to spending most of his time in Mississippi.
Michael’s work has been collected in the Bay Area and throughout the United States. He has participated in group exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions in the Bay Area and the East Coast as well as The Southeastern United States.
In Michael’s paintings, drawings, fabric-scapes, wood sculptures, and quilts, he explores the notions of freedom, power, pleasure, spirit, and healing. He adamantly believes that pleasing visuals have the power to shift realities.
